The Library for Contemporary Arts was born from Giuseppe Morra’s desire to make his collection accessible, which officially opened to the public in 2003. It currently consists of a corpus of over 8000 texts already present in SBN and other volumes, magazines, manuscripts and rare editions, in the process of being catalogued.

Sections of the Library:

  • GENERAL ART (from 1930 to the present day)
  • FUTURISM
  • DADAISM
  • HAPPENING AND FLUXUS
  • VIENNESE ACTIONISM
  • VISUAL POEM
  • PHILOSOPHY (with donations from Arcangelo Izzo, art critic)

The Library also has donations and collections:

  • Luca Maria Patella Collection: it shows Patella’s artistic approach, a tireless exploration of the unlimited universe of language.
  • Arrigo Lora Totino Fund: consisting mainly of monographic texts by Arrigo Lora Totino and volumes dedicated to him.
  • Gutai Group Fund: section focused on the Japanese artistic current and the figure of Shozo Shimamoto.
  • Living Theatre Fund: section focused on the pictorial period of Julian Beck and the performing activities of the Living Theatre.
  • Archivio Mario Franco: consisting mainly of film texts with some sections dedicated to photography, the avant-garde movements of the ’20s and ’60s, art and art criticism, philosophy.
